Technology for Your Toolbox 【Vancouver/BC州】

This presentation will provide an overview of technology and software applications that can facilitate communication and learning for children with ASD and other developmental disabilities. Participants will see apps for the Apple iPad and will leave with a list of apps that they can use with their children/ students. Participants will also be introduced to the Boardmaker software family and how to create activities to teach vocabulary, sentence construction, math and other concepts.

Dr. Brenda Fossett is well known as an excellent teacher with a gift for finding innovative ways of using technology to create motivating and meaningful learning opportunities for children with special needs. She has recently moved to Alberta and is now an assistant professor in in the area of autism and developmental disabilities in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta. Brenda began her career as a teacher of deaf students with developmental disabilities, and she has also worked as a behaviour consultant and an instructor at both UBC and Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Her primary areas of interest include augmentative communication, positive behavior support, and literacy instruction, particularly for persons who are deaf and have autism or other developmental disabilities.
